No longer the head coach of the Shanghai Sharks, Daniel Panaggio didn’t have to wait long before he found work again. He has since been hired by the Phoenix Suns to lead their pro-scouting department.
According to Paul Caro, writing for AZcentral, Panaggio was quickly snapped up by the Suns, who recently sacked their own head coach, Alvin Gentry.
The former Sharks coach, who was relieved of his duties in Shanghai on January 7th- a day after losing at home to the Beijing Ducks- will return to Arizona for his second stint with the Suns. He held exactly the same post before he left for China.
Moreover, in one of his final interviews by the Chinese media, Panaggio left with positive words to say about Sharks owner Yao Ming but candidly conceded that he ‘regretted’ signing Gilbert Arenas due to the injury chaos the former NBA All-Star caused in the early stages of the season.
