Uh-oh. The Shanxi Dragons, Shanghai’s very recent nemesis is coming to town and although the team is a little different to what it was a couple of months ago, the visitors are still a very tricky outfit.
With Marcus Williams now banned for six months following his failed drugs test, the Dragons have moved quickly and brought in Christian Eyenga, formerly of Cleveland and the LA Lakers. The swingman is expected to make his debut in this game and on paper looks to be a solid scoring outlet.
However, one player the Sharks do know very well is Charles Gaines, the hulking power forward who is currently averaging around 31.9ppg and 14.2 rpg. He is also an impossibly physical player that will relentlessly take the game to Shanghai.
Duan Jiangpeng takes a lot of threes and will need to be watched on the corners but Shanxi make no bones about how they are going to come at you. That said, if Shanghai can deal with Gaines and hope that Eyenga has a hard time adjusted to Chinese basketball, the Sharks could slay the Dragons.
However, the health of DJ White is still a mystery and it will be asking a lot of Liu Wei and Gilbert Arenas to have another top drawer game forty-eight hours after beating Xinjiang. This game is finely balanced and the Sharks will probably start it as underdogs.
