Shanghai Sharks have confirmed on their website that the contract of Jet Chang, the Taiwanese guard who the team signed in the CBA preseason, has been canceled.
Chang was a standout Div II player in the States with BYU-Hawai’i and although the Taiwanese national team player went undrafted in the last NBA draft, he spent much of July on the summer league team of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
With the ongoing Gilbert Arenas injury saga still raging, Chang’s own drama has faded into the background. Having first had to do his Taiwanese national service, the shooting guard then moved to Shanghai to train with the team. Due to play in the recent road trip to northern China, Chang then missed the games with flu. Now amid rumors of contract disputes as a result of time missed, the Sharks have now pulled the plug on the deal.
This will be a blow to the Sharks. Many fans saw the signing as a real coup for the team and Chang would have given further backcourt options for a roster that has only really got anything out of Liu Ziqiu and Liu Wei so far this season.
