Sharks sign Taiwanese centre, Tseng Wen-ting

With the new CBA season now only weeks away, Shanghai Sharks have moved to sign twenty-seven year-old Taiwanese centre, Tseng Wen-ting from the charmingly named Yulon Dinos in Taiwan’s Super Basketball League (SBL) in a move that will be celebrated by Shanghai’s basketball fans and the city’s hairdressing industry.

The towering big, who can also play as a forward, was the fulcrum of a Dinos side that won four SBL championships in the eight years since the league formed, three of which were won consecutively between 2003 and 2006. Tseng also won two league MVP’s during his time with Yulon as well as leading the SBL in blocked shots in six different seasons. A fixture in the national side, Tseng won rave reviews as part of the Taiwan team that eventually finished fifth overall in the 2009 FIBA tournament.

As mentioned by Taiwan Hoops, Tseng could be making as much as two million RMB a year over the course of his three year contract with the Sharks, who had to beat off stiff compatition for his signature.

The Ghengis Khan lookalike will wear the no.4 jersey during his stay in the city, presumably because no one was brave enough to tell him that he couldn’t.
