The rumors were true. As confirmed by the team’s official website, power forward DJ White is now a Shanghai Shark and Coach Panaggio  has both his overseas imports in place ready for their preseason tours of Australia and Taiwan. All is good in the world’s largest city (so far as basketball is concerned).

White, who spent the last two seasons with the Charlotte Bobcats, will be coming to the Sharks despite interest from a couple of NBA teams and organisations in Europe. The guarantee of substantial playing time and no doubt a decent pay cheque will have probably helped with the American’s decision-making process but the crucial thing is that Shanghai has its man and can now look forward to the looming CBA season.

Having played four years of college hoops at Indiana, White was chosen by the Detroit Pistons as the 29th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft before being traded the same day to the recently relocated Oklahoma City Thunder.

After three seasons with the Thunder, White moved to Charlotte in 2010 where the forward saw decent amounts of playing time coming off the bench. In his final season with the Bobcats, he averaged 6.8ppg and 3.6rpg but will be expected to put up substantially better numbers now he has arrived in Shanghai.
