Sharks Go Down Big To UCLA

In arguably their first meaningful preseason friendly since the CBA ended in April, the Shanghai Sharks went down 92-63 at the Yuanshen to the visiting American college powerhouse, UCLA.

Missing both Liu Wei and Zhang Zhaoxu, who were being given time to recover from their stint in London with the Chinese Olympic basketball team, a weakened Sharks side tied valiantly but were systematically dispatched by a UCLA outfit that were never in any danger of losing.

The Bruins opened up a game-high 29pt lead by the end of the fourth quarter and although the result doesn’t look good on paper, for many of the Sharks team that played, this will be welcome experience for when the CBA starts in November.

NB: Though I had a ticket, I couldn’t make the game so I’m going only on what other people are saying. The UCLA website has a write up from their point of view and I’ll update this when I can get a better picture of who played and for how long on the Sharks team.
